Core Spices and Flavorings -
1 tsp Turmeric
1 tsp cumin powder
Other Ingredients -
1/4 cup onion, chopped
1 1/2 tbs butter
1/4 cup all purpose flour
1 tsp salt or to taste
1/8 tsp black pepper
2 cups milk
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup broccoli (finely chopped)
3 cups potatoes (peeled and thinly sliced)
4 hot dogs (halved lengthwise and sliced)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Add butter to a medium sized pan over medium heat and let it heat for about 30 seconds.
Add in the onions and saute for about 2 to 3 minutes or until tender.
Stir in the flour, salt, pepper, cumin and turmeric until well blended.
Slowly add in the milk and keep stirring until it comes to a boil. (Make sure the flour is well blended. If the mixture does get a little lumpy, simply strain before moving onto the next step).
Remove from heat and add in the cheese and stir until melted.
Add in the broccoli and mix until well blended.
Grease a medium sized baking dish.
Arrange half the potatoes in the dish so that each slice is slightly overlapping the other.
Pour half the cheese and broccoli sauce over this layer of potatoes and spread.
Arrange the hots dogs over the sauce.
Top with the remaining potatoes and sauce.
Cover and bake in the oven for about 1 1/2 hours or until bubbly.
Uncover and bake for another 10 minutes or until the top is lightly browned.
